NEW - RIBBLEHEAD series
Over the Cumbrian border and straddling Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire this RIBBLEHEAD series of small paintings take in the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside. The huge and imposing Ribblehead Viaduct cuts through the landscape and across the moor and now appears as much a part of the landscape as the hills, mountains and wild grasses. Finished in 1875 by a team of what was some 2500 men living at the time in shanty towns set up in the area - the viaduct carries the Settle to Carlisle railway. The Viaduct is at the foot of the more rounded Whernside in visual contrast to the weathered and eroded distinctive stepped apearence of Pen-y-ghent and Ingleborough. There are huge areas to walk and explore with peat covered fells and limestone pavement and extensive networks of caves and potholes that have developed within the limestone strata
With this series I have painted areas that were explored over a one day walk. Painted in the studio on board that was cut down and prepared with various layers of gesso. They are slices of scenes that take in random views as well as the iconic Viaduct and the Three Peaks. These paintings are all complete with beautiful, chunky handmade frames and finished with matt white paint - leading the eye into the work. Signed by me on the front - and all labelled on the reverse these are ready to hang
